The tent city for migrants of San Ferdinando, in the Piana di Gioia Tauro, will be dismantled. The prefect of Reggio Calabria, Massimo Mariani, said this to ANSA after having concluded a round of consultations with the Calabria Region and the Municipalities of San Ferdinando and Gioia Tauro and after consulting the organizations that deal with assistance to migrants. “We are waiting for the Calabria Region – adds Mariani – to make funds available to launch a reception and residence project, using some confiscated assets. The basic idea remains that of offering migrants residence facilities that ensure dignity”.
“It is a question of identifying – says the Prefect of Reggio Calabria – existing housing structures to be restored and transformed into guesthouses, with the availability of essential services”. However, there are no certainties on the timing of dismantling the tent city, hoped for to avoid the current situation of potential danger, because the Calabria Region is expected to make available the funds that have been insured.
