(ANSA) – PESCARA, FEBRUARY 04 – The reclamation works that Edison will carry out in the former Montecatini area of Piano d’Orta, inside the Sin di Bussi sul Tirino, through Sersys Ambiente, will begin on Wednesday 9 February. The activities are carried out in accordance with the provisions of the first excerpt of the operational reclamation project, presented by Edison in 2019 and approved by decree of the Ministry of the Environment in July 2020. Edison itself announces it in a note.

The construction site was started in the following November, according to the terms provided for by the same decree, with cleaning and preparation of the areas, geophysical investigations to search for any underground metal bodies, characterization investigations and preparation of the excavation plan.

The works, according to what Edison reported, will start with the preparation of storage areas, then the excavation and removal of a first batch of materials that are at a safe distance from the buildings on the site, for which a ordinance issued by the Municipality of Bolognano provides for both Moligean, owner of the area, to carry out the demolition.

The intervention covers an area of approximately 3,600 square meters and the volume of materials that will be removed amounts to approximately 9,000 cubic meters, including demolition residues (bricks) and industrial production residues (pyrite ashes).

Following the operations of mowing and deforestation preparatory to the reclamation interventions, demolition residues containing asbestos were found on the ground. For these materials, a specific safety procedure was agreed with the ATS, by means of a specific encapsulating product and, subsequently, they were sent for disposal in plants authorized for their treatment, in accordance with the provisions of current legislation.

In the meantime, Edison continues its prevention activities by pumping and treating groundwater from six wells, with quarterly monitoring of groundwater and, from 2018, with monitoring of dust.

Furthermore, since mid-December 2021, Edison has started characterization investigations in the area called sector Z, adjacent to the area covered by the reclamation project and included in the Sin dal 2021. (ANSA).
