It is with these reasons that the investigating judge of the Agrigento court, Micaela Raimondo, validated the arrest, and ordered the precautionary custody in prison, of Gaetano Rampello, the 57-year-old policeman serving in the mobile ward of the Catania Police Headquarters, who confessed to the murder of his 24-year-old son Vincenzo Gabriele. The young man was murdered on 1 February with 14 gunshots in Piazza Progresso, in Raffadali, after he had stolen his father’s wallet.
The confession of the suspect, who immediately called the carabinieri saying where he was and being arrested while he was sitting on a bench, did not completely convince the investigating judge who underlined some contradictions assuming that, at first, he wanted to escape the ‘arrest having gone away and having made the gesture with a hood on his head in addition to the obligatory mask that covered his face.
The man denied having premeditated the murder, saying he had lost control after years of threats and attacks by his son.
The fact that the gun was already unsecured and hidden in a backpack – as can be seen from the video surveillance images that recorded the crime, underlines the investigating judge – would rule out an impromptu gesture. Furthermore, according to the judge, Gaetano Rampello could have made him a postepay recharge, instead of showing up at the appointment to give him the requested money since, moreover, he had a commitment linked to the rent of a property.
