The Hungarian Prime Minister Orban in the Vatican for an audience with Pope Francis

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, accompanied by his entourage, arrived at the Vatican where he is received in a private audience by Pope Francis this morning. This is the first official visit abroad by the head of the Hungarian government after the elections on 3 April which confirmed him as head of the country for the fourth consecutive term.

It is also the first official face to face in the Vatican between Pope Bergoglio and Prime Minister Orban: a first ‘private’ meeting between the two, also in the Vatican, dates back to August 28, 2016, when the Argentine Pontiff received the group of leaders and parliamentarians.
