Find the first reactions to the announcement of the government of Elisabeth Borne

Seventeen ministers, six deputy ministers and four secretaries of state. The first government of Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne was revealed late Friday afternoon by the secretary general of the Élysée Alexis Kohler. Some ministers, already present in previous governments, are renewed, such as Gérald Darmanin, Éric Dupond-Moretti and Bruno Le Maire. This new government also gave rise to a few surprises, such as the appointment of historian Pap Ndiaye to National Education and Youth, and that of the former boss of LR deputies Damien Abad to the Ministry of Solidarity, Autonomy and People with Disabilities.

On the social network Twitter, the French political class was quick to react to these announcements.

Marine Le Pen, President of the National Rally

“The appointment of Pap Ndiaye, an assumed indigenist, to National Education is the last stone in the deconstruction of our country, its values and its future. Elect as many RN deputies as possible to protect our youth from the worst ideologies!”

“Economy, security, justice: all those who have failed badly are renewed. What contempt for the French!”

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, LFI leader

“A very liberal government. Neither audacity nor renewal. All dull and gray. The Macron II mandate begins on tiptoe. But in a month everything will change.”

Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the PCF

“We take the same ones and we start again! 4 weeks for a game of musical chairs. The real change is your vote on June 12 and 19 which will bring it.”

Olivier Faure, First Secretary of the PS

“E. Macron was right to make us wait so long, it was really worth it… we are now waiting for the project… If possible before June 12.”

Julien Bayou, national secretary of EELV

“Borne government: a right-wing government that does not care at all about ecology and social issues. De Montchalin has never shown the slightest interest in ecology. She has even glorified MERCOSUR. And no one in housing… For stop inaction: let’s vote #NUPES”

Adrien Quatennens, LFI deputy from the North and number 2 of the party

“After a round of musical chairs, stupor: the #GouvernementDesRiches remains the government of the rich!”

François Ruffin, Deputy for the Somme

“Bruno Le Maire keeps the economy. Darmanin the police. The money and the truncheon stay on the right. The bankers, the shareholders, the CEOs will not be disturbed. After that, we will let the other ministers have fun around.”

Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice

“As Mayor of #Nice06 I will do all my part to help the #gouvernementborne to succeed. Local elected officials will have to be widely associated with the reforms of our country to make this 2nd five-year term of @EmmanuelMacron an even more useful mandate for the French .”

Renaud Muselier, ex-LR president of the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region

“#GouvernementBorne – France is in working order and needs total commitment! Faced with the military, climate and health crises, the government is now at work. In all the projects that are opening up, this government will have the support of the #RegionSud!”

Guillaume Peltier, vice-president Reconquest!

“Macron’s government? The clan of careerists. With a bonus to leftism embodied by the new Minister of National Education: #papndiaye, the promoter of minorities & migrants. People of France, join @Reconquete_off to build resistance & hope.”

Jordan Bardella, President of the RN

“Pure Macronists renewed despite their failure, a few mercenaries without convictions: it’s a government of the self, a McKinsey government, cold and techno. A + combat government + … against the French people. June 12 and 19, vote.”

Éric Zemmour, unsuccessful Reconquest presidential candidate

“Emmanuel Macron said that the history of France had to be deconstructed. Pap Ndiaye will take care of it.”
