Card. Bassetti, I will continue to listen and to love people

(ANSA) – PERUGIA, MAY 27 – In his rooms in the bishopric of Perugia, Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, for whom Pope Francis has today accepted the resignation from the pastoral government of the Archdiocese, rearranges the books and his “few things” in waiting to move to Città della Pieve. He is no longer a prelate and to ANSA he assures that he is “very, very serene”. “I will certainly continue to do one thing – he strongly emphasizes – I will continue to listen and love people because love is the spring that moves life”.

Cardinal Bassetti, who has also left the presidency of the CEI, explains that he will now wait for the new bishop of Perugia.

“As one of the diocesans” he adds. “I am a presbyter of this Church – he says again – and I have already said that when the Lord calls me I wish to be buried in the cathedral of Perugia. My desire is to die as a priest of this city”.

In the meantime, Cardinal Bassetti is preparing his transfer to Città della Pieve where he will spend his time as archbishop emeritus. His attention is focused on the books. “I received many during the presidency of the CEI – he concludes – and I would like this heritage not to be lost”. (HANDLE).
