Already historically high last Sunday during the first round of the legislative elections (52.5%), the abstention rate could well swell a little more this Sunday during the second round. What translate the major disinterest of the French for this election. However, the 2017 record should not be broken.
New electoral weekend in France. This Sunday, the second round of legislative elections will take place. Again with many questions around abstention, historically high last Sunday for a first round. This time, it should again be the first party in France.
However, the 2017 record, where 57% of voters shunned the ballot box, should not be beaten. But this abstention remains a major fact of this election and illustrates the disinterest of a large part of the voters for this election. In fact, non-participation is higher among women than among men and also affects young people a great deal. 73% did not vote last week and they should be as much this Sunday.
Unequal territories in front of participation
Another characteristic concerns the level of income of non-voters. 46% of the wealthiest voters have thus planned to abstain, against 62% for the poorest. Finally, abstention varies according to the territories. It is thus particularly high in Seine-Saint-Denis where 62% of voters did not turn out last week, but also in Val d’Oise and Moselle.
Conversely, the mobilization is much stronger in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, in Haute-Vienne and in the Lot, the department which voted the most in the first round with 60% participation.
