The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, arrived in Piazza Castello in Torin to attend the ceremony of the oath of the Carabinieri students of the 140 / o course named after Alberto La Rocca, Carabiniere Gold Medal for Military Valor, who in August 1944 delivered himself to the Germans in Fiesole to save the lives of ten civilian hostages who were allegedly killed as a result of his escape to join the partisan brigades.

The ceremony falls on the bicentenary of the foundation of the first training school of the Carabinieri, which the City of Turin has hosted since 1822. On 12 October 1822, in fact, the King of Sardinia Carlo Felice issued the Royal Patents in Turin with which he instituted the figure of the Carabiniere pupil.

A line-up led by Major Alberto Giletti – which includes the Banda dell’Arma dei Carabinieri, the pennant of the 140 / o Training Course, and a training Battalion made up of students of the 140 / o course – has given the honors today in Piazza Castello in Turin to the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella. The head of state reviews the departments deployed, accompanied by Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini. With them also the Chief of Defense Staff Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, and the general commander of the Carabinieri Teo Luzi.
