Scholz almost on par with Baerbock, Laschet stays in front

Almost two and a half months before the federal election, the Social Democrats and their candidate for Chancellor Olaf Scholz can look forward to a slight upward trend in the polls.

In a poll by the polling institute Civey for the Spiegel With around 19 percent, the SPD is now hot on the heels of the Greens (20 percent). The Union parties are therefore stable at around 28 percent, the FDP at eleven percent. AfD and left come to ten and six percent.

The direct election question is also slowly going up for Scholz and down for the Green candidate Annalena Baerbock, so that the two are now in a head-to-head race for second place behind Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet.

Around 20 percent each would vote for Baerbock or Scholz if the Chancellor were to be directly elected. Laschet is stable ahead with 25 percent. However, the majority of the Germans surveyed stated that they did not want to choose any of the alternatives mentioned around 34 percent. (Reuters, Tsp)
