“By decree of the President of the Republic dated August 17, 2022, Mr. Jean Castex is appointed chairman of the board of directors of the Agency for financing transport infrastructure in France”, indicates a decree from the Official Journal published Thursday. The former Prime Minister succeeds Christophe Béchu.

Former Prime Minister Jean Castex has been officially appointed chairman of the board of directors of the Agency for financing transport infrastructure in France (Afit France), according to a decree published Thursday in the Official Journal. “By decree of the President of the Republic dated August 17, 2022, Mr. Jean Castex is appointed chairman of the board of directors of the Agency for financing transport infrastructure in France”, indicates the text, very briefly.

Jean Castex succeeds Christophe Béchu, who has become Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion. Afit France is a public establishment which manages the State’s share in the financing of road, rail, river and port infrastructures. Its budget is funded by a share of the product of the domestic consumption tax on energy products (TICPE), a payment from motorway concession companies, a share of speed camera fines and state grants.

Castex attached to the field of transport

“Your exceptional commitment to transport accessible to all continues unabated!” Reacted the Minister Delegate for Transport Clément Beaune, in a message of congratulations on Twitter. A confirmed railroader, Jean Castex has repeatedly expressed his attachment to the field of transport during his time at Matignon.

His appointment as head of the board of directors of Afit France was approved by Parliament on July 27, after hearings in the Assembly and the Senate. Jean Castex then recognized the need to invest massively in rail to decarbonize transport, but without forgetting the road, essential according to him “to open up the territories”. The former Prime Minister was also appointed at the end of July, on a voluntary basis, president of the Foundation Act against exclusion (FACE).
