Faced with deadly storms in Corsica, Emmanuel Macron chaired the interministerial cell from Brégançon on Thursday evening, alongside Élisabeth Borne, who was herself also on vacation in the Var. An exceptional situation which precipitated the return of the president to the front of the stage.

After the deadly bad weather Thursday in Corsica, Emmanuel Macron triggered a crisis unit. He wanted “to re-express his support and that of the nation for the Corsicans who have been hard hit”. These storms hastened the return of the Head of State to the forefront of the political scene, while he was on vacation until then. Faced with deadly storms, the Head of State chaired the interministerial cell on Thursday evening from Fort Brégançon, alongside Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne, who was herself also on vacation in the Var.

An exceptional situation which therefore precipitated the return of the president to the front of the stage, he who had been spending studious holidays for almost 15 days, without public appearance or walkabout.

Back to work on Wednesday

This Friday evening, his speech in Bormes-les-Mimosas will be devoted to the soldiers and resistance fighters of the Second World War. But it should also be based on current events and send a political message by calling on the French to unite in the face of the accumulation of difficulties: the climatic events of the summer, inflation or even the war in Ukraine.

His speech, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, will in any case mark the end of his summer break. On Wednesday, Emmanuel Macron will chair the back-to-school council of ministers at the Elysee Palace and the next day he will fly to Algeria to try to calm relations that are tense to say the least with his counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
