The president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region makes his political comeback this Sunday with the traditional ascent of Mont Mézenc on the border between Haute-Loire and Ardèche. In the short term, the former mayor of Puy-en-Velay is not running for any election. What to mark out your candidacy for 2027?

2027 turns in a corner of the head of Laurent Wauquiez. It is for this reason that he had declined, last month, the many requests addressed to him to take the head of the Republicans.

“The alternative we must build must go beyond device issues,” he wrote on his Facebook page at the time. Clearly, Laurent Wauquiez wants to take advantage of his freedom to continue to take the pulse of the country, says those around him. The former minister of Nicolas Sarkozy should thus multiply the trips in the coming months, without journalists or cameras, to meet the French.

A very close eye on the future of the right

The ascent of Mont Mézenc, this Sunday, will be preceded by a speech focused on his vision of the country and the work that the right must, according to him, accomplish to recover. A right on which he keeps a very close eye. He will also be present next week, at the start of the Young Republicans in Angers, and will especially be accompanied this afternoon by around twenty parliamentarians, including Eric Ciotti.

The two men are close and saw each other this summer even if Laurent Wauquiez does not support any candidate at the head of the party at this stage. The former mayor of Puy-en-Velay still ensures behind the scenes that the next president of LR, whoever he is, does not overshadow him for his ascent to 2027.
