The announcement rocked the government. Éric Dupond-Moretti will have to appear before the Court of Justice of the Republic. Despite the alleged facts, the question of his continued government does not arise. It must be said that the Minister of Justice benefits from the protection of Emmanuel Macron.
Storm warning for Emmanuel Macron. For the first time, a minister in office must appear before the Court of Justice of the Republic. Éric Dupond-Moretti, current Minister of Justice, is the subject of several complaints, including one filed by the anti-corruption association Anticor. The Keeper of the Seals is thus suspected of having taken advantage of his position to settle accounts with certain magistrates.
If the case is embarrassing, there is no question of questioning the place of the lawyer within the government. Since his appointment in 2020, Éric Dupond-Moretti has been one of Emmanuel Macron’s favorites. The Head of State at the time assumed a political coup by seeking out one of the tenors of the bar. And since then, the strength of their relationship has never wavered.
Emmanuel Macron is sensitive to the fact that the Keeper of the Seals has put his career on hold to engage in politics.
Franchise and recognition
The Head of State also appreciates his frankness, unlike some ministers who are considered too courteous. Éric Dupond-Moretti, for his part, is grateful to the person who appointed him Place Vendôme and who protects him in the face of his problems with the law. The President of the Republic is convinced that the judicial institution is over politicized, and does not intend to have its agenda dictated by it.
The announcement of the requisitions of the prosecution last May, asking for the referral of the Keeper of the Seals to the Court of Justice of the Republic in the midst of a reshuffle period, would moreover have prompted the Head of State to reinforce Éric Dupond-Moretti in its functions.
