Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) is self-critical. Some of the corona measures he was asking for were probably too strict, he said in an interview with the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung”. With a view to the Infection Protection Act, it is good that he was not able to achieve all of the goals he originally set.
Originally he wanted school children to be tested more strictly. “We tipped that. And that’s good. That would have affected children too much. I see it the same way now.” Lauterbach also attributed his insight to opposition from the ranks of the opposition. “Just because the criticism comes from the opposition, you shouldn’t be stubborn.”
The minister also underlined that politics does not have to follow science. “I accept the primacy of politics 100 percent. And that means that political decisions can also be made differently than science recommends. That’s right.” Lauterbach also referred this to the decision against general vaccination, for which he had fought for a long time. (KNA)
