On the occasion of the holding of the mayors of France, Emmanuel Macron received this Wednesday at the Elysée, nearly 1,000 local elected officials. During his speech, the President of the Republic dwelt on the “commitment” of the mayors in their mandate, and puts forward his results.
Operation seduction this Wednesday for Emmanuel Macron with the mayors of France. While the energy crisis is hitting municipalities hard, the Head of State has had the opportunity to take the pulse of elected officials in the aisles of the mayors’ lounge in France. After this first stroll, a thousand of them were received at the Elysée. An important meeting for the President of the Republic, where the latter took the opportunity to thank their commitment.
Coping with the energy crisis
“You carry the Republic and you carry on a daily basis, in the face of all crises, the ability to hold on, to organize common life, to provide concrete solutions”, he explained to local elected officials. The president insisted on the energy crisis and on the various measures put in place to deal with it, such as the tariff shield. And these are then words of firmness that he brought to local elected officials who are more and more often victims of aggression.
“Some would like to explain to us that there is a form of violence which would be legitimate on the pretext that such a fight would be legitimate rather than another. In a democracy, no form of violence is legitimate”, he affirms firmly .
“Instrument of revolution”
After a first five-year term marked by complicated relations with mayors, Emmanuel Macron also put forward his new method, embodied by the National Council for Refoundation. “It is an instrument of revolution” insists Emmanuel Macron. “Those who want to lead the revolution must seize this instrument. Those who do not want to seize it cannot come and complain afterwards,” continued the Head of State.
The Head of State also mentioned the war in Ukraine, expressing his desire to associate the French mayors with the conference in support of Ukraine which will be organized in Paris on 13 December.
