Members of the Republicans have until Sunday evening to nominate the two finalists for the election at the head of the right-wing party. Number of voters, influence of Laurent Wauquiez in the election… Difficult to predict a loser, as the keys to the ballot are numerous.
Who from Éric Ciotti, Aurélien Pradié or Bruno Retailleau, will be qualified for the second round of the election of the new president of the Republicans? The vote for the first round has been open since this Saturday and must end this Sunday evening at 6 p.m. But for the moment, the uncertainty is great a few hours from the result.
Thousands of “new registrants”
Because the Republican ballot, which takes place almost exclusively online, contains some originalities. The first: the number of voters. The Republicans claim more than 91,000 members, or 40,000 more than last June. The three candidates fought to get as many activists as possible to join, in particular Éric Ciotti in the Alpes-Maritimes. The vote of these “new registrants” could therefore, in the event of strong mobilization, weigh in on the outcome of the ballot.
Another question, the influence of Laurent Wauquiez. The president of the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region publicly supported Éric Ciotti, who made it a campaign argument. The Niçois indicated that in the event of an election, he would make Wauquiez the right-wing candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

And then, we will know at the end of the ballot if the break desired by Bruno Retailleau with Nicolas Sarkozy will pay off. Of the three candidates, the Vendéen is the one who most pleaded for divorce with the former president and founder of the Republicans.
Finally, the result of the first round will give an indication of the importance of current events, such as the investigation by the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office into the multiple jobs of the ex-wife of Éric Ciotti for example, or the remarks of Grégoire de Fournas in the Assembly, condemned by the deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes, but defended on the merits by Bruno Retailleau.
