Kühnert, Baerbock, Esken: Politicians and journalists on the “enemy list” of Reich citizens

SPD General Secretary Kevin Kühnert has confirmed that his name was on a list found among Reich citizens. The Federal Criminal Police Office informed him on Wednesday, Kühnert told Reuters.

The “tageszeitung” had previously reported that the people arrested on Wednesday were apparently operating with “enemy lists”. There were 18 names on a list, including Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens), SPD leader Saskia Esken, Kühnert and CDU politicians Armin Laschet and Friedrich Merz.

The terrorist suspected network is said to have planned to break into the Bundestag by force and arrest the politicians. This is reported by the “taz” and refers to investigations by the Attorney General.

In addition to seven Bundestag politicians, several journalists are said to have been on the list. However, it is unclear whether they have also been informed.

“We must not underestimate the danger emanating from violent Reich citizens. These people don’t just fantasize about conspiracy theories. They had concrete plans that they were willing to implement,” Esken told the taz.

During nationwide searches, 25 people were arrested on Wednesday as members or supporters of a suspected terrorist organization. They are said to have planned a political coup and an armed attack on the Bundestag.

Discussion about tightened security checks by the police and in the Bundestag

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of the Interior pointed out that there is already a simple security check for all newly hired employees of the Federal Criminal Police Office.

The federal police are also introducing such a rule. On the question of a nationwide observation of the AfD, she referred to the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

After the raid, the Bundestag is considering additional security measures. “We will examine exactly for the Bundestag which security precautions we need to adjust and deal with the topic in all decisive bodies,” said Bundestag Vice President Katrin Göring-Eckardt of the Funke media group.

According to a media report, an “enemy list” was circulating among the accused, which included top politicians and other celebrities. (Reuters/AFP/Tsp)
