While the examination of the pension bill before the Assembly’s social affairs committee begins on Monday, the unions are hoping for an even stronger mobilization during the demonstration on January 31. The representatives of the intersyndicale will meet just after the rally, to discuss the follow-up actions.

The examination of the pension bill before the Assembly’s social affairs committee begins on Monday, before the text arrives in front of the hemicycle on February 6. Faced with this, a second day of mobilization against the pension reform is scheduled for Tuesday. After the success of January 19, where more than a million people marched throughout France, the eight main employee unions still want to score points.

They thus hope for an even stronger mobilization, like François Hommeril, the boss of the CFE CGC: “We always hope to do better, we will do at least equivalent”.

Keep the pressure on the executive

Number one of the UNSA, Laurent Escure is counting on the French to mobilize. “There, it has to be stronger. We at the UNSA, we would like the support of the French people for this mobilization, which is very strong, to translate into even more people in the street. There, we have a ras le bowl that accumulates because there have been other socially unjust measures. Pensions are the straw that breaks the camel’s back,” he laments.

And for the general secretary of Force Ouvrière Frédéric Souillot, what counts is to maintain the pressure on the executive, until the withdrawal of the reform. “We are not here to count each other, but to make the government back down. After a while the government will be forced to hear us. It should have already done so. All the unions and a large majority of French people are against the reform”, he underlines.

And for the unions, the amplification of the movement depends on the success of this second day of demonstration. The representatives of the intersyndicale will meet just after the mobilization, to discuss the follow-up actions.
