By being much firmer, through the voice of Gérald Darmanin and Élisabeth Borne, the executive changed its tone this weekend on the subject of pension reform. What will be the head of state’s plan for the rest of his five-year term? According to information from Europe 1, Emmanuel Macron plans to dissolve the National Assembly before 2027.

“The fact of not having a democratic breath for five years is no longer suited to our time. We should perhaps have something that would resemble mid-term elections”, declared Emmanuel Macron in an interview given to the Point, during the in-between rounds of the presidential election. Nine months later, the President has in mind to dissolve the National Assembly before the end of his five-year term.

“The President will activate this option before 2027”

Emmanuel Macron is considering dissolving the National Assembly. It is not planned for immediately but behind the scenes, the entourage of the Head of State is almost unanimous: “The President will activate this option before 2027”, assures an adviser. “At best, according to a palace strategist, it would be an opportunity to find an absolute majority in the hemicycle” and “at worst” – and this is the hypothesis deemed most likely – “the National Rally (RN) would win a majority of seats.”

Matignon would then return to Marine Le Pen. “If she accepts, it’s the best way to weaken her as the presidential election approaches”, judges this adviser who continues. “If she refuses, it will show that she does not want the power!”

“Dissolution is a nuclear weapon”

In the meantime, this little music has the advantage for Emmanuel Macron of maintaining pressure on the entire political spectrum, starting with the candidates for his succession. Édouard Philippe, Bruno Le Maire, François Bayrou, who in such a scenario would have no choice but to compete in order to obtain the maximum number of seats for their respective parties. A dissolution would therefore inevitably change the situation of the next presidential election.

“Dissolution is nuclear weapons,” assumes a close friend of the president. Still, a failure of the pension reform in Parliament could force the head of state to activate his plan much earlier than expected.
