According to a document from the Ministry of Defense, Germany wants to buy eight Iris-T air defense systems for the Bundeswehr. The project is on a list of proposed procurement actions dated January 25, seen by Reuters news agency on Wednesday.
The project is therefore expected to be submitted to the Budget Committee of the Bundestag for approval in the second quarter.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defense said that they want to submit a contract for the procurement of Iris-T to Parliament this year. She did not want to comment on the number of planned systems and the timetable.
Iris-T is a medium-range anti-aircraft system. The system developed by Diehl Defense consists of a radar, launchers and missiles.
Germany has so far delivered an Iris-T system to the Ukraine, and three more are to follow. (Reuters)
