Danger in Germany: BKA suspects more than 600 people

The security authorities in Germany currently classify 608 people as so-called endangerers. Of these, 505 people were assigned to the area of ”religious ideology”, said a spokeswoman for the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) of the “Neue Westfälische” published in Bielefeld.

Of these people, 92 are currently in custody and, to the knowledge of the security authorities, 203 others are currently abroad. According to this, 210 dangerous people are free in Germany.

The authorities also counted 72 threats in the area of right-wing extremism, nine in the area of left-wing extremism and 22 in the area of ”foreign ideology”, as it was also said. In addition to so-called endangerers, “relevant persons” who support serious politically motivated crimes are also recorded.

According to the BKA, there are 186 people in the spectrum of right-wing extremism, 73 in the left-wing extremist scene, 504 in the field of religious ideology and 45 in the field of foreign ideology.

According to the newspaper, terrorism expert Peter Neumann warned above all against loners with extremist views. “The existing danger comes mainly from people who have not necessarily been trained by or fought for organized groups such as the Islamic State (IS), but from ‘lone wolves’,” he told the newspaper.

It has been seen several times in recent years that these people are also capable of committing deadly attacks. (epd)
