Green light from the Council of Ministers to the decree law on migrants: it focuses on the regular flows of migrants and the fight against irregular immigration. The main law concerns crimes related to trafficking in persons and “provides for an increase in the penalties for trafficking in migrants. A new type of crime is introduced for those who cause death or serious injury for trafficking in persons which provides for a penalty of up to 30 years in prison”, says Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after the Council of Ministers. Basically, we ask that concrete steps come from the next European Council. We want to establish the principle that we do not accept the trafficking of third millennium people”.

“We are determined to defeat human trafficking responsible for this tragedy, ours is a policy of greater firmness,” Meloni said. “I believe that another way to fight human traffickers is to send the message that it is not worthwhile to enter Italy illegally, pay the smugglers and risk dying”
