Climate protection: “Last generation” is apparently considering founding its own party

The climate activists of the “Last Generation” are apparently considering founding their own party. This is reported by the “Welt”, citing recordings from a video conference of climate protection groups from different countries.

When asked about her plans, the representative of the “Last Generation”, Caris Connell, said: “Now we are trying to found a political party.” The name is not yet clear, “Last Generation” shouldn’t be it, “but something else”.

When asked, activists from the group have not yet commented on the possible plans. Most recently, the “last generation” made headlines because they had offered politicians a deal: they would stop their protests and stop sticking to the highways if the federal government responded to their demands.

The model first worked in Hanover. The mayor there, Belit Onay (Greens), had responded to the offer of the “last generation” and had publicly supported their demands, including a “social council”, a permanent 9-euro ticket and a speed limit. Now the city has peace again from the “climate stickers”. Marburg and Tübingen followed. The group also announced that there would be no protests for Greifswald after the city leaders had promised. Other cities like Berlin rejected the offer. In parts of politics, the actions of the “last generation” were seen as an attempt to blackmail the state.

According to “Welt”, the activists justified the planned step of founding a party in the video link: parties are very well placed under German law. The activists apparently promise to be able to generate donations even more effectively. (feel)
