“Now there’s speed in Germany”: Scholz defends the decisions of the coalition committee

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) defended the decisions of the coalition committee. In the government survey in the Bundestag on Wednesday, he spoke of “speed”, “modernization” and “acceleration”.

Scholz listed various planned infrastructure and transport measures. In the case of buildings, there will be “pragmatic” and “very friendly solutions” so that the country becomes climate-neutral.

Nobody is left alone with their problems, said Scholz. “But, that’s the difference from before: there will be speed, acceleration, and these tasks will all be pursued in a targeted manner.

The stagnation of the past few decades, which we owe to conservative politics, has finally come to an end. Now speed is coming in Germany.”

The Union, on the other hand, accused Scholz in the Bundestag of softening the climate protection law. “How can you take responsibility for that?” asked Union parliamentary group leader Andreas Jung on Wednesday in the government survey with a view to the coalition’s decision not to set binding annual and sector targets for emissions in the future. Scholz rejected the allegations and assured that the government is doing everything to achieve the climate goals.

Rather, it is about “further developing” the Climate Protection Act for the future perspective of climate neutrality 2045, said Scholz. It is also not the case that there should no longer be any annual targets, but rather that “every year” will be checked to see whether the climate targets for 2030 can be achieved.

In the future, it should be checked every two years whether deviations are so large “that we have to make adjustments”. (dpa/AFP)
