Hidden for decades: Investigators may find letters from RAF terrorists

Investigators are examining letters that may have come from RAF terrorist Burkhard Garweg, who has been in hiding for decades. The public prosecutor’s office in Verden confirmed a corresponding report by the news magazine “Spiegel” on Friday. A spokesman said there had been searches “in the family environment of the accused”.

Documents, data carriers and mobile phones were seized. They would now be fully investigated. According to “Spiegel”, the searches took place in Frankfurt and Hamburg last week.

The 54-year-old Garweg probably went into hiding more than 30 years ago together with Daniela Klette and Ernst-Volker Staub, two other suspected members of the terrorist Red Army faction.

The far-left trio is suspected of being responsible for a series of armed robberies of armored vehicles and supermarkets, primarily in northern Germany. The three are wanted across Europe. (dpa)
