Four districts affected: Bremen’s state returning officer files an objection after a breakdown

After a glitch in the Bremen state election, the state returning officer announced that he would lodge an objection to the validity of the election for the four affected districts. This was announced by a spokeswoman for the election management on Thursday. Around 280 ballot papers with around 1,400 votes were lost in the May 14 election.

Because of the lack of votes, there could be shifts within the party lists, so that movers move into the state parliament or MPs lose their seats, said the spokeswoman. However, the error has no influence on the distribution of seats. The Bremen election examination court must decide whether the election will be repeated in the four affected districts.

Two and a half weeks after the election in the smallest federal state, the official final result is also known. There are therefore no changes to the distribution of votes and seats to the provisional official final result that has already been published.

The SPD won with 29.8 percent of the votes. She is currently holding coalition talks with the Greens (11.9 percent) and the Left (10.9 percent). The largest opposition party is the CDU with 26.2 percent of the vote. The Bürger in Wut (BiW) movement received 9.4 percent of the votes, while the FDP received 5.1 percent. (dpa)
