The RN, “heir to Pétain”? “I agree with Elisabeth Borne”, assures Laurent Berger

The secretary general of the CFDT Laurent Berger was the guest of Europe 1 on Tuesday. At the microphone of Sonia Mabrouk, he returned to the statements of Elisabeth Borne, who describes the National Rally as “heir to Pétain”. “I agree with the Prime Minister,” firmly assures the trade unionist.

It’s a little phrase that has not gone unnoticed. During an interview on Radio J, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne did not hesitate to describe the National Rally as “the heir of Pétain”. A qualification that provoked the ire of members of Marine Le Pen’s party, but also a reframing on the part of the President of the Republic.

fight against resentment

During a Council of Ministers, Emmanuel Macron would have stressed that it was necessary to “discredit” the RN “by the substance and the inconsistencies”, rather than by “words from the 90s which no longer work”, relates The Parisian. Invited this Tuesday morning at the microphone of Europe 1, the secretary general of the CFDT does not hesitate to support the Prime Minister: “I agree with what Elisabeth Borne says”, he assures at the microphone of Sonia Mabrouk.

“This political party is the heir of Pétain and I am completely convinced that we must fight against the rise of this party by acting on the social causes which are the resentment and the feeling of relegation of part of the population”, continues- he.

CFDT, a remedy for RN?

Despite his position, Laurent Berger does not deny the rise of the National Rally in France, especially in the so-called “peripheral” areas and in French rural areas. The RN is progressing “simply because we do not respond to social concerns and that gives the feeling that there are no prospects”, he assures.

But, “every time there is a CFDT trade unionist presence, the national rally is less strong”, judges the national secretary of the union. Proof of this is the increase in the number of members, continues Laurent Berger. “Today, we probably have around 650,000 members. We had around 612,000 in 2022. So we are increasing and each time we do it by being very firm on our values, our ambitions and our practices” , he concludes.
