New postponement of the arrival in the Chamber of the bill on assisted suicide, in implementation of the sentence of the Constitutional Court of 2019. The bureau of the Justice and Social Affairs Commissions of the Chamber decided to ask the President of the Chamber Roberto Fico, one postponement of the calendar of the text from 22 to 29 November. A first postponement had led to the postponement from 25 October to 22 November. But the date of November 29, on which the presidents of the commissions, Mario Perantoni and Marialucia Lorefice have insisted, is contested by Lega and Coraggio Italia.
Today the two Commissions should have held a decisive session, because the speakers Alfredo Bazoli (Pd) and Nicola Provenza (M5s), would have had to present reformulations of amendments on some issues, which should have represented proposals for synthesis and understanding. But the presidency office took note of the impossibility of respecting the date of 22 November given the persistent obstruction of the center-right, especially the Lega and FdI. Hence the decision to ask President Fico to postpone the arrival in the Chamber of just one week, therefore from 22 to 29 November, with the prospect of moving forward in forced marches next week. A path questioned by the leader of the Lega Roberto Turri and by Fabiola Bologna of Coraggio Italia. “Respecting the date of November 29 – Turri told Ansa – is objectively impossible. We still have to vote 380 amendments”. Bologna’s words were similar: “Ours was a rational request; if so far we have voted 10 amendments out of 400, I find it difficult to conclude next week. We asked for a date more consistent with the work to be done. The speakers gave the maximum availability to the comparison , if you want to reach a shared solution you need to work carefully “.
The two speakers set aside about a hundred of the 398 amendments on the most delicate points, that is, conscientious objection and the criteria for access to assisted suicide, to propose formulations that favor an agreement, a moment which however has been postponed given the overturning of the meeting of today.
