Documentary on protests in Hong Kong wins ‘Asian Oscars’

(ANSA) – ROME, NOVEMBER 28 – A documentary on protests in favor of democracy in Hong Kong yesterday won a prestigious award in Taiwan at the Golden Horse Awards, the Asian version of the Oscars. CNN reports it.

Kiwi Chow’s ‘Revolution of Our Times’ was named Best Documentary, sparking long applause and cheers for Hong Kong from the audience during the evening in Taipei. Chow, who sent a pre-recorded message from Hong Kong thanking them for the award, dedicated the film to the inhabitants of the former British colony, hoping that the award would bring them some comfort.

“I cried a lot during the making of this film, many times the documentary served me to express my anger, my hatred, to face my fear and my trauma”, said the director, originally from Hong Kong, with the voice broken by emotion. The documentary captures several demonstrations and clashes between demonstrators and police during the 2019 demonstrations. It was shown this year at the Cannes Film Festival. (HANDLE).
