The name of the Republican champion for the presidential election will be known on Saturday at 2.30 pm, it will be Valérie Pécresse or Eric Ciotti. But in both cases, this stage marks the last straight line before the 2022 election, which promises to be tough.

The LR champion will soon be known. After two months of pre-campaign, LR members will know behind who, between Valérie Pécresse and Eric Ciotti, they will line up to enter the presidential battle. As soon as the results are announced at 2:30 p.m., the party will put itself in order of battle around the winner by providing him with financial and political support. Guests of Laurence Ferrari a few hours after the results of the first round, the two finalists have also said that they will support each other regardless of the winner. And this will also be the case for many Republican executives, long remained impartial, such as Laurent Wauquiez or Bruno Retailleau, who should henceforth get involved in the campaign.

Christian Jacob, the architect of unity strategy

A unit as a guideline that the LR owe to a man: Christian Jacob. The President of the Republicans worked hard internally to rule out an open primary and organize this Congress which, despite the differences between the candidates, made it possible to display unity and good understanding between the five candidates. They will also all be gathered next week around a lunch with the president of the party and Gérard Larcher.

The hardest part is yet to come for LRs

Still, once the name of the champion is known, the hardest part begins for the Republicans. Whether the members favor Valérie Pécresse or Eric Ciotti, both are low in the polls, and very far from the leading trio Emmanuel Macron, Marine Le Pen and Éric Zemmour. The Republican staff therefore hopes to start a dynamic this weekend and maintain it at a minimum until the end of the year, with one objective: that the discussions of the Christmas dinner revolve around the LR candidate.
