Candidate for the primary of the Greens, Eric Piolle relies on his image as a man on the ground

The page of the regional elections is barely closed as the mayor of Grenoble Éric Piolle embarks on the race for the green nomination for the presidential election. He officially announced on Tuesday that he would run in the Greens’ primary in September. He will face Sandrine Rousseau, the first declared candidate, and probably also against Yannick Jadot, who has not yet said anything about his intentions.

“He has a past in the world of work”

Éric Piolle therefore made the choice to go into the countryside at the end of June. But in Grenoble, we’ve known for months that he wants to become the Greens’ presidential candidate. “What he offers, what he brings as solutions, it appeals to people who find in him a personality a little different from what they are used to seeing on TV,” said Margot Belair, one of the managers of his campaign team, at the microphone of Europe 1. “Before, he was an engineer, he managed teams, he has a background in the world of work that some politicians do not necessarily have, and it works. ”

Éric Piolle wants to convey the image of a man close to reality, to differentiate himself from other green candidates. He will therefore be hard at work all summer and will crisscross the country in particular to meet French people who do not go on vacation. The opportunity for him to explain the success of the Grenoble model?

“There are a lot of things that have changed in Grenoble”

“There are still a lot of things that have changed in Grenoble on aspects of mobility, public spaces, biodiversity and nature in the city. All of this has been rewarded with the title of European Green Capital 2022. C ‘ is really a success, being the first ecological mayor of a big city. I hope that it will show the way then on the national level “, answers Guillaume, an activist.

In this campaign, Eric Piolle also intends to promote “the republican arc”, his model of governance to the left of the left with socialists, communists and rebels.
