Yannick Jadot presidential candidate via the environmentalist primary

EELV MEP Yannick Jadot announced Wednesday evening on TF1 his candidacy for the 2022 presidential election. He also confirms that he will submit to the Greens primary. Yannick Jadot had already worn the colors of ecology in 2017, before rallying the socialist candidate Benoît Hamon.

EELV MEP Yannick Jadot formalized his candidacy for the 2022 presidential election on Wednesday via the environmentalist primary, in interviews with TF1 and L’Obs. “I want to put ecology at the heart of power” and “build a French ecology team that will win the presidential election,” he told TF1’s 20-hour newscast. Before him, the mayor of Grenoble Eric Piolle and the former number 2 of the Greens, Sandrine Rousseau, had already announced their candidacy for the primary of Europe-Ecologie-les-Verts which is to take place at the end of September .

“I am a candidate for the presidential election because I love France, its diversity” and “I want to serve it because in the face of climate change, (…) in the face of social injustices, we can no longer procrastinate” , declared this former official of Greenpeace France, who had disappeared behind the PS candidate Benoît Hamon in the presidential election of 2017. Asked about his participation in the primary of the Greens, Yannick Jadot, 53, replied: “of course, I have always been faithful and loyal to my political family, it is a transparent method of appointment “.

A desire to unite the whole left

Defender of an ecology beyond the right / left cleavage, the most media of the Green candidates, head of the EELV list in the 2019 European elections, has drawn strong criticism from rebellious France (LFI) and has sometimes stirred up his own camp in recent years. In the spring he worked for a possible single candidacy on the left for 2022 but faced reluctance, in particular from the rebels.

“When we see to what extent climate change is the great challenge of our society (…) it is around this project that I want to bring together all those on the left who see clearly that the question of ecology is We will see who wants to come, “he said on Wednesday.
