Benedictines Norcia, new monastery, a sign of hope

(ANSA) – NORCIA (PERUGIA), 21 JAN – The construction of the new Benedictine monastery of Norcia “represents a sign of great hope”. This was underlined by the religious community led by Father Benedetto Nivakoff who, after the earthquakes of 2016, moved to the hill of San Benedetto in Monte, a few kilometers outside the historic center of the city. The days of the religious are still marked by prayer and work.

A couple of years ago work began on the reconstruction of an ancient Capuchin convent which will become the “official” home of the 20 monks present today in Valnerina. The prior opened the doors of the construction site to ANSA, but also those of prayer and lunch together with the entire community. Thus allowing you to live a whole day immersed in faith and in the planning of a future that will inevitably pass through another reconstruction, that of the Basilica of the patron saint of Europe.

And on the hypothesis that the monks return to the Basilica, he says that the Nursinians and the many visitors “will certainly find our presence”. “In the sense – he adds – that our heart lies in the Basilica and in particular in the crypt where St. Benedict and St. Scholastica were born. As soon as the reconstruction is completed, it will be our hope to present that Benedictine spirit that has remained there for centuries”. (HANDLE).
