Three sextuplets are Belgium’s goalball stars
Three sextuplets could bring Belgium the first ever Goalball medal at the Paralympics in Tokyo. Arne, Bruno and Tom Vanhoven belong to the Belgian team, which is only six players, and have already made it to the quarter-finals.
In August 1983, her parents had sextuplets. Three of them were seeing, the other three were visually impaired. They quickly found goalball, the bell ball sport played with opaque glasses.
In 2008 Bruno took part in the Paralympics in Beijing, and in 2012 Tom joined them. Now the trio is complete with Arne, who initially concentrated on his studies. “When I saw the two of them together, I set myself the goal of making it to the Paralympics. I’m happy that I made it and can now share it with my brothers,” he said.
“It will be great to look back on it at some point and talk about it at the family table,” said Bruno. “But there are no medals for being sextuplets. There are medals if you win.”
