Marcel Sabitzer leaves RB Leipzig and moves to FC Bayern Munich

FC Bayern has done its Leipzig transfer hat trick with the signing of Marcel Sabitzer. After coach Julian Nagelsmann and defense chief Dayot Upamecano, the Munich champions are happy about the third notable entry from the runner-up this summer. The 27-year-old former RB captain signs a four-year contract on Säbener Strasse and fulfills a childhood dream. According to speculation, the transfer fee for the Austrian national soccer player should be around 15 million euros.

“Marcel Sabitzer has everything a player needs for FC Bayern. He will also not need a long time to get used to because he is already very familiar with the philosophy of our coach Julian Nagelsmann, ”said sports director Oliver Kahn.

With the commitment of Sabitzer, the Munich bosses also fulfill a wish of their new coach. The 34-year-old coach was already thinking about the Austrian in Leipzig. Spicy: champions and runners-up will meet after the international break on September 11th (6.30pm / Sky) in Leipzig in the Bundesliga. It remains to be seen whether Sabitzer will then appear.

Sabitzer, whose contract expires at the end of the season with RB and which he had not extended early despite efforts by Leipzig, had been associated with the Munich team for some time. “I am very happy to be able to play for FC Bayern. Even as a child, I was very proud of my Bayern jersey, and every Christmas I got a new one, ”said the 54-time Austrian international.

After teams like Tottenham Hotspur or AS Roma, who had shown interest in signing the Austrian national player, did not take action, Nagelsmann prevailed with FC Bayern. “Marcel is a very good footballer, he has a great mentality, is very ambitious and, as captain of RB, was responsible on and off the pitch. Our coach knows him very well, also as a leading player, ”said sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.

With the change, Sabitzer is fulfilling a childhood dream

For the allegedly around 15 million euros, Sabitzer is comparatively cheap. Overall, the Munich-based company paid the proud sum of well over 70 million euros to the league competitor for the top trio from Saxony. From there, the assistants Benjamin Glück, Xaver Zembrod and Dino Toppmöller also moved to FC Bayern.

Sabitzer can be used variably in midfield, which Nagelsmann really appreciates. More than a year after Thiago’s departure, a position in the ensemble was filled with the commitment. In addition, the squad, which has already been described as too small, has been enlarged by an exquisite player. For Sabitzer, who has played for RB teams since 2014, there is a great opportunity to play for big titles. For him, FC Bayern is an opportunity close to his heart.

In Leipzig, the task will not be easier for the new coach Jesse Marsch. After the departure of Sabitzer and Upamecano as well as the fixed loan shops of Hee-chan Hwang (Wolverhampton Wanderers) and Alexander Sörloth (Real Sociedad San Sebastián), personal details such as those of Ademola Lookman or Marcel Halstenberg are still unresolved.

Like the possible newcomer Ilaix Moriba. The 18-year-old midfield talent from FC Barcelona could become a replacement for Sabitzer. RB should be a dream destination of the Guinean-Spanish player. Managing director Oliver Mintzlaff and sports director Florian Scholz spoke to those responsible for the Catalans in Barcelona. (dpa)
