(ANSA) – ROME, FEBRUARY 23 – Alexander Zverev went into a rage at the end of the doubles match, lost at the Acapulco tournament, and repeatedly hit the referee’s chair with his racket. An “unsportsmanlike” behavior that cost the world number 3 the expulsion by the ATP. Today Zeverev was scheduled to play the second round of the singles against compatriot Peter Gojowczyk on Wednesday.
After losing double in the super tie-break with Brazilian Marcelo Melo against Britain’s Lloyd Glasspool and Finland’s Harri Heliövaara (6-2, 4-6, 10-6) Zverev hit the referee’s chair three times, then he sat down and then stood up and insulted the referee and gave one last hit of the racket. In addition to the expulsion, the ATP could decide further and heavier penalties against the German tennis player.
