(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 08 – All in all Alexander Zverev got away with little, expelled from the Acapulco tournament for hitting the referee’s chair several times with his racket during a doubles match. The number 3 in the world was sentenced by the ATP to a two-month stop, but the sentence is suspended. Zverev was also fined an additional $ 25,000 (€ 23,000).

Both the suspension and the fine will not be triggered provided that, during a probationary period – which ends on February 22, 2023 (one year after the accident) – the player does not commit any other violations of the disciplinary code. Therefore, if he avoids any further unsportsmanlike behavior for one year – “disrespectful or aggressive behavior, verbal or physical abuse, towards a judge, an opponent, a spectator or another person during or after a match” -, Zverev will see sanctions officially lifted, otherwise they will apply after all appeals have been exhausted, concludes the ATP.

Initially the governing body of the men’s circuit had sanctioned the German with a fine of 40,000 dollars (35,600 euros), for insults and unsportsmanlike behavior, and had deprived him of his earnings in Mexico (31,570 dollars), or 28,160 euros) as points acquired in the ranking of singles and doubles played. Zverev, who will then be able to compete in the Indian Wells Masters 1000 which starts tomorrow, has until Friday to appeal. (HANDLE).
