(ANSA) – SAKHIR, MARCH 10 – On the first day of Formula One pre-season tests in Bahrain, Sebastian Vettel took to the track wearing a helmet with the colors of Ukraine, to protest against the Russian invasion. The Aston Martin driver wore a white helmet with blue and yellow stripes, with a dove drawn, the sign “Peace and love”, the words “No war” and the lyrics of the song “Imagine” by John Lennon.
On the initiative of the Grand Prix drivers’ association, the GPDA, yesterday eighteen of the owners on the grid (with the exception of the British Lewis Hamilton, and the Danish Kevin Magnussen who arrived in Bahrain late in the evening) posed behind a Ukrainian flag and a banner with the wording “No war” on the starting grid of the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain. Everyone also wore a “No war” crossed-out shirt.
With a message in an Instagram story, Hamilton expressed his closeness to Ukraine and asked for support for a group of British NGOs: “My heart is with the brave people of Ukraine, who stand by their values of freedom and peace.
