(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 29 – The national team of the United Arab Emirates will challenge Australia, next June 7 in Doha, in the play-off of the Asian area (of which the ‘aussies’ are part even though they belong to Oceania) which will designate the team that will then face fifth-placed South America for a place at the World Cup in Qatar.
The Emirates had the certainty of being able to play off thanks to today’s 1-0 win over South Korea, with a goal from Hareb Abdullah in the 9th minute. This result and the simultaneous draw of Iraq, 1-1 with Syria, gave the Emiratis the certainty of third place in group A and therefore access to the play-off.
The Asian national teams so far qualified for the World Cup are Iran (who today beat Lebanon 2-0), South Korea, Japan (1-1 at home with Vietnam in the last match of these qualifiers, with a goal from the Sampdoria Yoshida) and Saudi Arabia. (HANDLE).
