(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 09 – Marcell Jacobs will take part in the 11th edition of the International Meeting of the City of Savona to run 200 meters. The Olympic champion, fresh from the 60 indoor world title, is announced at the start by the organizers of the event that will be staged on Wednesday 18 May.

It will be a return to the Fontanassa track from which the journey to double gold at the Tokyo Games started and where with 9.95 he managed to break down the ten-second wall in the 100 with his first Italian record.

The sprinter of the Fiamme Oro will be expected on the double distance, faced only once in the last six years by signing the time trial of 20.61 in 2018. The primacy of the meeting dedicated to Giulio Ottolina is the 20.50 with which Davide Manenti in 2016 obtained the Olympic standard, and the organizing director Marco Mura is working to set up a cast with high profile opponents: the last two winners were the Canadian Brendon Rodney in 2019 (bronze in the 4x100m at the 2016 Olympics and silver in the 2021 ones) and the Dominican Yancarlos Martinez in 2021.

For Marcell it will be the sixth participation in the Savona meeting: in addition to the 9.95 in heats of 2021, he won the 100 in 2016 and 2019 while he finished second in 2018 and 2020.
