Andreas Voglsammer is now close

Andreas Voglsammer played in Bielefeld for five and a half years, and there are currently some differences compared to his time on the Alm. At Arminia, the offensive player was set, mostly came over the left side and developed over the years into an undisputed top performer. In 163 games he scored 49 goals and prepared 22 more.

The 29-year-old Bavarian has not yet been able to achieve this status at 1. FC Union after his transfer in the summer. So far Voglsammer has to line up behind Max Kruse and Taiwo Awoniyi and come to terms with the joker role.

“When I first sat on the bench in Bielefeld, I had the feeling that I would be a substitute in no time at all, that I could not provide much impetus,” said Voglsammer before the duel with his former club on Saturday (3:30 pm, Sky) in Stadium at the Alte Försterei. To then add, almost surprised: “At the moment I use it every now and then.”

Whereby “every now and then” is an understatement when it comes to the last few appearances. Against Borussia Dortmund, he headed the interim 2: 3 after being substituted on. Three days earlier against Prague, he initiated Kevin Behrens’ goal. He had good chances against Augsburg, but failed on the post. Also in qualifying for the Conference League against Kuopio, he had scored a goal as a joker. This balance can certainly be seen in the manageable operating time. “He did well in the last few games, brought momentum and is very close,” said coach Urs Fischer.

He is still waiting for the first starting eleven

One of the most exciting questions before the duel on Saturday is whether it will be enough for a starting eleven against his old colleagues in the league for the first time, in addition to the fitness of the ailing defender Robin Knoche. So far, Fischer has always relied on Kruse / Awoniyi in the attack and substituted Voglsammer, Kevin Behrens and Sheraldo Becker in the middle of the second half. That usually worked out well, but after a very strong August, the regular duo seemed a bit luckless in the end.

Fischer is not expected to give any clues in this regard in the run-up to the game, and Voglsammer also refrains from making any big declarations of war. “Of course you can’t be satisfied if you don’t start playing. But the guys are doing really well, so I have to get in line for the time being, ”says Voglsammer.

A few insider tips for trainers Fischer

On Thursday, Fischer consulted the former Bielefeld man briefly and picked up one or two insider tips. In terms of sport, Voglsammer does not want to overestimate the reunion, but from a human point of view it is a special game for him. “I had an incredibly good time there, I have a lot in common with the club and I’m just happy to see people again.”

Voglsammer’s assessment of the upcoming opponent coincides with that of his coach – and also sounds a bit like a self-description of the Berlin style of play. “Bielefeld is an extremely disgusting team, very uncomfortable and compact,” says Voglsammer. Arminia are still without a win after five games, but have lost only once. Union has also drawn three times.

Fischer expects a close game and thus exactly the opposite of the duel in Berlin a year ago. At that time, Union won 5-0 against Bielefeld, who were overwhelmed in every way, and to this day the Berlin’s highest Bundesliga victory. Andreas Voglsammer was absent at the time because of a hairline crack in his foot – and for once was perhaps not too unhappy about it.
