(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 19 – Two Olympic champions in the 100 meters of Savona. While there is growing worldwide anticipation for Marcell Jacobs’ 200 meters, today is the news that two other protagonists of the 4×100 gold medal relay at the Tokyo Olympics will compete at the Ottolia Memorial on May 18: Fausto Desalu and Lorenzo Flap. The two blue sprinters of the Fiamme Gialle will find themselves as opponents on the double straight of the Fontanassa which last season hosted Jacobs’ 9.95, the first Italian record of the Garda sprinter on the way to Olympic gold.

On that same day, another news for Italian athletics had been the 10.13 with which Lorenzo Patta was a strong candidate for a place in the relay. The Sardinian, then the first fractionist in Japan, had won the final after the resignation of Jacobs who had signed the record in the drums: he returns to Savona to try an encore on a track traditionally appreciated by sprinters.

Also for Fausto Desalu, Savona means personal best: he ran his best 100 meters in his career in Liguria, in the 2020 edition, with 10.29, in the head-to-head race between Tortu and Jacobs. A time trial that the thirteenth century rider intends to improve this season, 200 meters in perspective, with an eye towards Eugene’s World Championships and the European Championships in Munich. The sprint race will have at the start the other Italian relay runner who was part, as a reserve, of the 4×100 group in Tokyo Wanderson Polanco, and several international interpreters.

The most popular name is the French former European record holder Jimmy Vicaut, deprived by Jacobs of the continental record in the semifinal at the Olympics for him 9.86 in his career, 10.06 last season. The other French in the blocks is Mouhamadou Fall (10.04 personal best) who crossed arms with Patta at last year’s European Team Championships in Chorzow. The Ivorian Arthur Cissé, 9.93 man and recent finalist in the 60 meters at the Indoor World Championships, is back on the Riviera di Ponente. (HANDLE).
