(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 21 – “Homosexuality in sport? Of course it exists, I think it is also wrong to ask. The mistake is upstream: why should we ask if there are homosexuals in fencing? Already a priori the question is wrong”. This was stated by Arianna Errigo, star of the blue foil and saber, gold in team foil at the London 2012 Games, questioned on the recent and controversial sentence of Sofia Goggia to the ‘Corriere della Sera’.
The athlete from Monza then spoke about what the future holds for her: “I haven’t thought about my post career yet, I feel like an athlete and I want to continue being an athlete, I don’t know when I’ll stop. For sure I would like to be a mother, but for now I’m focused on sports: the goal is to get to Paris 2024, where I hope to win the individual gold that I still miss (it was silver in London ed) “. But Errigo believes that her last race “won’t be in Paris” anyway. “I have many projects in mind, I would like to stay in the world of fencing, perhaps in the shoes of a new figure, who acts as the glue between the three weapons at an organizational level”, concluded Errigo.
