F1: pouring rain on Imola, fans lined up since the morning

(ANSA) – IMOLA (BOLOGNA), APRIL 22 – Heavy rain has been falling since yesterday evening on Imola and will be one of the variables of the first day of the weekend of the Rolex Made in Italy and Emilia-Romagna F1 Grand Prix, fourth round of the World Cup. Bad weather swells the Santerno river that crosses the city and runs alongside the ‘Enzo e Dino Ferrari’ racetrack, but does not stop the influx of fans and enthusiasts expected in over 130,000 over the three days of racing. It is the return of the public to Imola after 16 years, after the two races of 2021 with the restrictions of the pandemic.

Many campers and caravans in the meadows and from the early hours of the morning a line of people with umbrellas and raincoats, not a few red and branded by the Ferrari Prancing Horse, approach the stands of the circuit, stop to take pictures with the stands in the background or nearby of the monument dedicated to Ayrton Senna, the Brazilian driver who died in Imola on May 1st 1994.

Free practice is scheduled at 1.30 pm, then qualifying from 5 pm to 6 pm, the first key moment of the weekend for the starting grid of tomorrow’s sprint race, the 21-lap mini GP that assigns points and the starting positions on Sunday . Formula 2, Formula 3 and the Porsche Supercup will also be in action at the racetrack, in which the tri-MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo makes his debut on four wheels.
