Swimming: three Ukrainian divers welcomed in Bolzano

(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 27 – Champions in sport and in life.

It happens in Bolzano where some Ukrainian divers were welcomed after the phone call to Tania Cagnotto from the international multi-medal winner Illya Kvasha: “Hello, everything is destroyed in Ukraine, can you give us a hand?”.

Ukrainian divers are also in trouble. Many facilities are unusable because they were bombed by the war and it is impossible to continue sporting activities, especially in the east of the country and in the cities near the Russian border. Cagnotto informed her father Giorgio, the technical director of the national diving team Oscar Bertone and the Italian Swimming Federation and the solution was identified: Bolzano. Thus the coach Iryna Zhyravleva, together with Oleg Serbin (European silver, world and Olympic finalist in the platform synchro with Oleksiy Sereda), his little sister Sofia, and Evgen Naymenko, already world and European medalist at the youth level and several times on the podium of the Grand Prix FINA, they come to town. They stay at the Chrys hotel, as part of the solidarity and support program of the autonomous province of Bolzano, and once the administrative-bureaucratic process is finished, they begin to train in the swimming pool of the Azzurri champions where, through Federnuoto and Bolzano Nuoto, they have facilities available. and free water spaces. “As part of our skills, knowledge and possibilities, we are always ready to help athletes and technicians who ask for our support directly or through our athletes” underlines Paolo Barelli, president of Federnuoto.

Meanwhile, the welcome initiatives carried out in the world of swimming sports continue to increase. Another group of young athletes is a guest of the ASD Bergamo Tuffi thanks to the intervention of Roman Volodkov, former Ukrainian multi-medal diver and coach in the Orobic society; just as in Genoa a group of young water polo players are training in the Albaro swimming pool thanks to an initiative shared by the families of the junior athletes of Iren Quinto and by Vadim Rojdestvensky, former Ukrainian national, who has been a coach in Italy for many years.
