(ANSA) – VENICE, 05 MAY – Venice is ready to welcome the Louis Vuitton Cup once again. On 30 April 30 years ago, in San Diego (USA), Moro di Venezia and the Compagnia della Vela engraved their names in history of the most prestigious and ancient sporting trophy: the America’s Cup. The boys from del Moro will return to Venice this weekend to relive and celebrate together the victory won in the final of the selection of challengers on Team New Zealand, which earned them access to the America’s Cup final. If the hopes of victory, as well as of a rematch, did not follow, that single feat was not a defeat, but it marked the beginning of Italy’s passion for sailing and inspired a new generation of sailors of which the ‘Moors’ were the founders.

The program of the celebrations includes a gala dinner tomorrow evening, the nautical headquarters of the Compagnia della Vela, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, which will be attended by the members of the Moro di Venezia team, the club members and the authorities. On this occasion the Louis Vuitton Cup will be exhibited, which will remain in Venice in the Compagnia della Vela until next month. At 10 pm there will be a video link from San Francisco with Paul Cayard, skipper of the Moro di Venezia.

On Saturday, around 5 pm, the second prototype built by Cantieri Tencara for the America’s Cup is scheduled to pass into the San Marco del Moro basin in Venice, accompanied by the Maxi-Ior Moro of Venice II, another historic boat that belonged to Raul Gardini, from the Dodesona, representative boat of the Royal Bucintoro Rowing Society, from other sailing and rowing boats, to greet the headquarters of the Compagnia della Vela and Bucintoro, the oldest rowing association in Venice – this year celebrates 140 years from its foundation – united by a historical bond and friendship to the Moor’s adventure. The evening will then continue in the Arsenale for a great party open to all friends of the Moor of Venice. (HANDLE).
