Football: Cagliari forced to go to Salerno to stay in A

(ANSA) – CAGLIARI, 07 MAY – It is the moment of truth. This time for real: losing or drawing would mean saying (still not mathematically but in fact yes) goodbye to Serie A.

The only advantage of a match like that of tomorrow at 6pm at Arechi against Salernitana is that Cagliari does not have to do many calculations. Because the only result that is needed is victory.

Whoever takes the three points has a very good chance of saving himself. But this also applies to the hosts who have been protagonists in the last weeks of a sensational comeback.

A few words, but precise: the new coach, Alessandro Agostini, presented himself to the press yesterday. “We can do it, the team is ready to give their all and play a great match”, these are the key concepts. In the meantime, however, the situation in the standings has become further complicated with the victory of Genoa over Juventus and Cagliari in a few days has slipped from the fourth from bottom to the penultimate place in the standings.

What are the strategies and the men that Agostini will field is all to be discovered. Yesterday no indiscretion and only an almost obvious certainty: the coach will not ask for help from his former Primavera. Indeed, to keep the team in A he will most likely rely on men of experience and long-standing Rossoblù militancy. For example to Ceppitelli for leading the defense and to Joao Pedro and Pavoletti to score the goals you need to keep hoping. Rog should also start, while the flag is almost certainly white for Nandez, except for a new injury yesterday.

As for the schemes, no anticipation: with Mazzarri Cagliari played with the 3-5-2. But lately things were not going very well: seven defeats in eight games with the illusion of salvation in the match against Sassuolo. For this Agostini could decide to change and focus on a compact 4-4-2.

Terrible schedule: after Salerno, Cagliari will receive Inter, in full scudetto race after the comeback of Empoli.

Closing in Venice. (HANDLE).
