(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 07 – Fifa president Gianni Infantino, running for the third consecutive term, received the support of the Asian Confederation (Afc), more than seven months after the elective congress, scheduled for the start of 2023. “The AFC and the family of Asian footballers are delighted with the candidacy of President Infantino for re-election and I can assure you today that we will be united in this regard,” said AFC President Shaikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa. from Dushanbe (Tajikistan), after an executive meeting. The Bahraini-born executive raced against Infantino in 2016, who has since won re-election in 2019 as the only candidate. The Italian-Swiss announced at the end of March that he wanted to run for a third and final four-year term at the helm of FIFA and has not, for the moment, any great opponent declared. The AFC has 47 member countries out of 211 FIFA affiliates.
