Boxing: Europeans; Italy redeems Tokyo, 7 in the medal area

Piazza di Siena, Gabrielli (Intesa Sanpaolo):

(ANSA) – YEREVAN, MAY 27 – The day of redemption of the Italian Olympic boxing. Less than a year from the Tokyo Games, for which no blue boxer had managed to qualify, the news arrives that today, after the matches of the quarter-finals of the European Championships, 7 Italian boxers have qualified for the semifinals, and therefore have earned the medals zone. An authentic blue avalanche that bodes well for Paris 2024.

But here’s how today’s day went, so positive for the Italian national team. In the 48 Kg Leonardo Esposito, beating the Ukrainian Tyshkovets 3-2, won the pass for the semifinals and, therefore, the certainty of taking at least the bronze medal and earning, at least, the 25 thousand dollars prize for those who place themselves third (one hundred thousand is the premium for gold, 50 thousand for silver). In the semifinal the Tuscan will challenge the Bulgarian Sebahtin. Semifinal also reached by the 51 Kg Federico Serra, who won 5-0 on the Georgian Darbadze.

Federico will compete for the pass for the final to the English Mac Donald. The 75 Kg Salvatore Cavallaro, 2021 World Cup bronze, has instead overtaken the Turkish hostile Gueller (5-0) and on Sunday, in the semifinal, he will box with the Irish Dossen. The European U22 blue gold, Alfred Commey, beat the German Ehis 5-0, also flying in the semifinals, in which he will face the Ukrainian Sapun. The 57 Kg Michele Baldassi overcame the Polish Brach 4-1 and now for him there is the Belgian Usturoi.

Manuel Cappai, who took part in the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics with the Italy tank top and secured access to the medal zone thanks to a 3-2 over British McHale. Cappai will play the final with the French Bennama.

Defeat the other Salvatore Cavallaro (a case of the same name) of the blue expedition, the one who fights in the 71 Kg: he lost against the British Akbar. Heavyweight Abbes Mouhiidne, silver at the World Cup, finished positively, beating Georgian Tchigladze 5-0 in his quarterfinal match. In the semifinal he will have to contend with the British Williams.

“Seven blues in the semifinals is an extraordinary result – the comment of the president of the FPI, Flavio D’Ambrosi -, son of those who work every day in the gyms for the Italian Noble Art.” (HANDLE).
