Turbine Potsdam wins 3-2 against Essen

For a long time it looked as if the fan festival for the 50th anniversary of Turbine Potsdam after the Bundesliga match against SGS Essen was going to be a gloomy affair for the hosts. The Potsdam women were already trailing a 2-0 deficit until a race to catch up and then a nice goal from Selina Cerci shortly before the end gave the Brandenburgers three points. Turbine won 3: 2 (0: 1) and played their way up to sixth place with their second win in the Bundesliga on matchday four.

Sofian Chahed had suspected that it would be difficult for his players on Sunday. “We have to turn every blade of grass over,” said Turbine’s trainer. And indeed: Essen did not put itself in the back and that initially caused problems for the Potsdam women. After just six minutes, Jill Baijings hit a free kick for the guests. The Essen women were very well placed in the first half, the hosts were too unimaginative in the game forward. The last ball just didn’t reach Turbine. The few fans in Essen, who were obviously very satisfied in the first half, could clearly be heard in the Karl Liebknecht Stadium.

It was a game with many intense duels, and sometimes it was very tough. Essen was closer to 2-0 in the first half than the hosts were closer to equalizing. Baijings once again kicked a dangerous free kick from distance in front of the goal of the Potsdam women, but this time the attempt of the Dutch international did not land in the goal.

Turbine pressed the guide

Turbine started more peppy in the second half, Nina Ehegötz fired a first warning shot in the direction of the Essen gate. After that, however, a lot flattened out again, but the Essenes proved that it was no coincidence that they were still unbeaten in the state capital. And in the 53rd minute of the game it was very bitter for the Chahed team: Maike Berentzen, who had moved from relegated Meppen to Essen before the season, volleyed a cross that had been hit into the penalty area and scored the 2-0 for the guests, Turbine goalkeeper Vannessa Fischer had no chance.

Potsdam replied only two minutes later. Sophie Weidauer hit the top left corner, it was already the second goal of the season for the 19-year-olds. And Turbine stepped up: Cerci scored to make it 2-2.

Then the hosts pressed the lead – and were initially unlucky. Ehegötz hit the crossbar twice within a few seconds. But then in the 86th minute of the game the time had come, after a nice combination the outstanding Cerci scored to the deserved 3-2 for Potsdam amid the cheers of the 1258 spectators. (Tsp)
